To build bridges in zones of conflict and cultural divide –
Puppet workshop in Summer 2004 for the children of Gaza-City
In Summer 2004, in coordination with the Foundation Hommes de Parole, Eric Deniaud, puppet player from Paris, was sent to Gaza in order to evaluate the possibility to start a cultural project.
The population in Gaza is completely isolated. Lack of inter-communication with the rest of the world is, among others, one of the main problems, blocking all perspective. Eric Deniaud met a number of musicians and artists, as well as stage manager, puppet player, Rachid Abu Sheireikh.
The language barrier disappears as they discover a common language: The puppet! The possibility of creating something together emerges, a ray of hope…
Ibrahim Najar started in Summer a little music group for children, teaching them oud, guitar, and flute. The news are promising and optimistic.
A puppet-making workshop took place in Gaza for a number of enthusiastic children. We encourage them to continue.
Let us give hope a real chance!
